Two sides out in front

Hull City are alongside them on 8 in fourth, their 2-0 win over Manchester United making it back-to-back victories, with only two goals conceded in four matches.

Brighton & Hove Albion complete the top five on 7 points. Their 4-0 win over Aston Villa was the biggest scoreline of the round, and no side in the division has scored more than their 13 goals, according to the Premier League table. Chelsea sit sixth, also on 7, after a 3-2 win at Fulham in the highest-scoring match of the gameweek.

Pressure at the bottom

Manchester United's defeat at Hull City leaves them 13th on 4 points, with one win, one draw, two defeats, seven goals scored, seven conceded and a goal difference of zero.

Tottenham Hotspur are 17th with 2 points and, according to the Premier League table, have yet to score in four outings, their 3-0 loss at Brentford extending a run of back-to-back defeats.

Fulham (18th) and Aston Villa (19th) each have a single point. Fulham have lost three in a row, while Villa have found the net only once in four matches. Coventry City prop up the table pointless, goalless and with 10 goals conceded across four straight defeats, the latest a 3-0 reverse at Arsenal.

The unbeaten chasers

Brentford, Liverpool and Everton are all unbeaten on 6 points, occupying seventh, eighth and ninth respectively. Brentford, with one win and three draws to their name, beat Tottenham 3-0; Liverpool left Newcastle with a 2-2 draw; and Everton saw off Crystal Palace 2-0 for a return of one win and three draws.

Ipswich Town's 2-1 win over Sunderland leaves them 10th, with Sunderland 14th on 4 points. Newcastle United sit 11th on 5, Nottingham Forest 12th on the same tally after their home defeat by Leeds, AFC Bournemouth 15th and still winless after three draws and a 2-1 reverse at Manchester City, and Crystal Palace 16th following their loss at Everton. Only two points separate Liverpool in eighth from Sunderland in 14th.

With Gameweek 2 next on the calendar, Arsenal and Manchester City already hold a four-point advantage over the chasing pack, according to the Premier League table — and the rest of the division now has its first proper chance to respond.
