A market that fancies nobody

Prices recorded in FanTribe's odds snapshot on 7 September for the gameweek of 10–12 October make for remarkable reading: all ten fixtures are priced identically, with the home win at 2, the draw at 3 and the away win at 2.

Not one favourite anywhere on the card. No home side is given an edge, no visitor is given an edge. Ten matches, thirty numbers, one shape. For a desk that charts odds movement, a gameweek the market cannot split is a story in itself.

These prices were captured more than a month before a ball is kicked, so there is time for them to sharpen — but as they stand, the market refuses to pick a winner in any of the ten.

Anfield's blockbuster, priced dead level

The stand-out fixture is Liverpool against Manchester City on Sunday 11 October. According to the Premier League table, City sit top with nine points from three games, seven goals scored and two conceded. Liverpool are seventh with five points and unbeaten themselves.

The market's answer? Both sides at 2, the draw at 3. The league leaders are not being given an edge of any kind.

Where the prices collide with the table

The uniform pricing clashes hardest with the form book:

• Arsenal, second with three wins from three and six goals scored against one conceded according to the table, host ninth-placed Leeds United — and are still priced level at 2.
• Coventry City, bottom with no points and no goals after three matches, welcome sixth-placed Newcastle United on 12 October at identical prices. It is the boldest line of the gameweek.
• Fulham, pointless in 19th, travel to 13th-placed Ipswich Town at the same 2-3-2.
• Hull City, third, unbeaten and yet to concede, host eighth-placed Everton in another dead-even affair.

The rest of the card

Manchester United, 11th, meet a Tottenham Hotspur side sat 17th with one point and no goals scored — 2 apiece. Aston Villa, 18th, host fifth-placed Brentford at level prices, as do Chelsea against AFC Bournemouth, Sunderland against Brighton & Hove Albion, and Crystal Palace against Nottingham Forest.
