Gameweek 2 of the 2026-27 Premier League season produced 32 goals across ten fixtures, and while the goals came thick and fast, it is the top of the table that tells the clearest early story.

Two perfect records at the summit

According to the Premier League table, Arsenal and Manchester City are the only sides in the division with a 100 per cent record. Arsenal left Aston Villa with a 1-0 win, the game's only goal proving enough, and that keeps them top on goal difference: their +7 return narrowly ahead of City's +6 after the 4-1 victory at Crystal Palace. Both clubs sit on 12 points with four straight wins, Arsenal's single goal conceded is the meanest defensive record in the league, and four points already separate the leading pair from third-placed Hull City.

Chelsea edge Brighton in the game of the round

Chelsea's 4-3 win over Brighton & Hove Albion was the joint highest-scoring fixture of the gameweek, level with Manchester United's 5-2 victory against Ipswich Town. It was also a second straight league win for Chelsea, lifting them to fifth on seven points. Brighton, despite leaving with nothing, stay fourth on the same tally — and, according to the table, their 13 goals scored is the most in the division, while their +8 goal difference is the best of any side.

Hull City climb to third

Hull City AFC won 1-0 at Coventry City to climb to third on eight points, unbeaten with two wins and two draws from their four matches — and only Arsenal have conceded fewer than Hull's two goals against, per the table. There were three draws elsewhere in the round: Liverpool were held 2-2 at home by Nottingham Forest and now have three draws from four, leaving them seventh on six points; AFC Bournemouth and Everton finished 1-1, a result that keeps Everton eighth and unbeaten; and Leeds United and Brentford shared the points in a 1-1 draw that leaves both sides without defeat.

United find their range, Newcastle climb

Sunderland AFC's 1-0 win over Fulham took them to 14th on four points, with Fulham dropping to 18th on one. Below them, Aston Villa are 19th with a solitary point and just one goal scored, while Coventry City prop up the division with no points, no goals and ten conceded. Crystal Palace are 16th on three points, level with AFC Bournemouth, whose draw with Everton made it three draws from four matches.

The road to Gameweek 3
